MPS-2B metallographic sample grinding and polishing machine

MPS-2B Metallographic Sample Grinding and Polishing Machine (Double Disc, Modular)

Metallographic Sample Preparation

MPS 2B Metallographic Sample Grinding And Polishing Machine

Overview

The MPS-2B is a metallographic sample grinding and polishing machine that combines grinding and polishing in one unit. It was developed for the routine preparation of metallographic specimens, where a flat, scratch-free surface is needed before etching and microscopic examination. The machine has a simple and fashionable appearance that is easy to keep clean, and it is built for a busy preparation room rather than for occasional use.

The design has been granted one appearance patent and one utility model patent. The shell is moulded in ABS and the steel base plate is thickened, so the machine is both firm and good looking. The whole machine uses a modular layout, which makes maintenance and overhaul straightforward, and the control section is available in three versions so the machine can be matched to the workflow and the skill level of the laboratory that will use it.

Grinding and polishing on one double-disc machine

Because the machine carries out both grinding and polishing, a specimen can be taken from the cut-off stage to a polished finish without moving to a second machine, which shortens the preparation cycle and reduces the amount of handling that can damage a prepared surface. The double-disc and double-drain arrangement lets coarse grinding and fine polishing be separated, and the drains are shaped so that they are not easily blocked by scale. Water cooling is fitted on top of the disc and a dirt flushing device at the bottom, which helps keep the surface and the abrasive free of swarf.

Three control versions for different workshops

The control section is offered in three versions so that the machine fits the way a laboratory actually works. The fixed-speed switch version is the simplest and is suited to a workshop that always uses the same preparation sequence. The stepless LED version uses a large 0.8-inch display and a non-contact touch switch with stepless speed regulation, so the operator can fine-tune the speed to the specimen. The top version uses a 5-inch 32-bit true-colour touch screen for speed adjustment, which is convenient in a laboratory that prepares a wide variety of materials and wants the speed set precisely for each step. The speed-adjustable versions use an AC servo motor, which gives high torque at low speed for coarse grinding and remains low in noise and stable at high speed for final polishing.

Applications and metallographic sample preparation

The machine is intended for laboratories that prepare metallographic specimens for microstructure examination, grain-size assessment, coating and layer measurement, and hardness testing after preparation. It is used in steel plants, foundries, heat-treatment shops, machinery works, universities and materials research units, and it fits the general preparation sequence in which a specimen is ground on successively finer abrasives and then polished before etching. Its 203 mm standard disc and the 45 kg cabinet suit a bench in an existing preparation room, and floating nozzles make cleaning between specimens quick.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the MPS-2B do both grinding and polishing?
Yes. The MPS-2B is a grinding and polishing machine with both functions in one unit, and it uses a double-disc, double-drain arrangement so coarse grinding and fine polishing can be separated.

What is the disc diameter and speed?
The standard disc is φ203 mm, with φ230 mm and φ250 mm available to order. Disc speed is 300 r/min or 600 r/min on the fixed and two-speed versions, and 0-1400 r/min stepless on the adjustable version, with left- and right-hand rotation selectable.

What is the difference between the three control versions?
The first uses a fixed speed switch with direct drive; the second has a 0.8-inch LED display, a non-contact touch switch and stepless speed regulation; the third has a 5-inch 32-bit true-colour touch screen for speed adjustment. The speed-adjustable versions use an AC servo motor.

What power supply does the machine need?
The standard supply is AC 220 V and the machine power is less than 750 W. Other standard voltages can be supplied to order, and the water inlet pressure is 0.6 MPa.

How is the machine maintained?
The whole machine uses a modular design, which makes maintenance and overhaul convenient. The floating water nozzle can be pulled out to clean the grinding and polishing disc and the workpiece in all directions.

About CHENJI & Support

CHENJI is the brand of Jinan Chenji International Trade Co., Ltd. (Shandong, China), a manufacturer and exporter of material testing machines since 2014, with in-house quality control plus third-party inspection by SGS or Bureau Veritas. The company holds ISO 9001 certification (626024QH073R1) and is a Bureau Veritas audited supplier (MIC-ASR2451820). Testing machines are normally supplied with a calibration certificate valid for 12 months and traceable to national force standards, and our engineers help you select the machine, fixtures and accessories for your specimen and method.

Every quotation is prepared against the standard you test to, so the delivered machine matches the test method rather than only the headline capacity. Spare parts, consumables and calibration support are available after delivery, and machines can be produced to OEM or ODM requirements when a customer drawing or specification is provided.

Selecting and Verifying a Testing Machine

Choosing a machine is a matter of matching capacity to the specimen and the method, not of buying the largest frame. A 1000 kN machine is not suitable for a sample that needs 1 N of force; capacity selection follows the specimen and the standard, and the force measuring system should be verified per ISO 7500-1 or ASTM E4 on a regular schedule. Load cells are commonly supplied as class 0.5 or class 1, which means the indicated force stays within ±0.5% or ±1% of the true force.

Test results are only comparable when they are quoted together with the standard, the specimen geometry, the test speed and the force measurement class. We are glad to review your test method and specimen so that the machine, fixtures and accessories are correctly specified before you order.
