HV-10Z / 30Z / 50Z Automatic Turret Vickers Hardness Tester
Hardness Testers

Overview
The HV-10Z/30Z/50Z is an automatic turret Vickers hardness tester. The automatic turret can switch the eyepiece and the indenter, which avoids damage to the instrument caused by manual error and improves efficiency, and the upgraded control system provides more measurement data with more comprehensive and accurate control. The machine meets the basic Vickers hardness test requirements and is fitted with the industrial display screen on which the hardness value, converted hardness, test method, test force, dwell time, measurement times and test process are shown intuitively.
The optical system was designed by senior optical engineers. It gives clear images and can also be used as a simple microscope, with adjustable brightness and comfortable viewing so that the operator is not easily fatigued after long operation. The cast aluminium shell is formed in one piece, so the structure is stable and does not deform, and the high-grade car-body paint resists scratching and stays bright after years of use.

Automatic turret and optical system
The defining feature of this model is the automatic turret, which converts between the measuring eyepiece and the indenter without the operator handling either part. Because the two are moved by the instrument rather than by hand, the risk of the indenter damaging the objective – or of a manual error changing the geometry between indentation and measurement – is removed, and the time between indenting one specimen and indenting the next is reduced. This is what makes the machine efficient in a laboratory that measures a large number of indentations each day.
The optical system gives clear images and can serve as a simple microscope in its own right, with adjustable brightness that keeps the operator comfortable during long sessions. The objective lenses of 10x and 20x with a 10x eyepiece provide total magnifications of 100x and 200x, with measuring ranges of 800 µm and 400 µm and resolutions of 1 µm and 0.5 µm respectively, which covers the diagonal-length measurement of a Vickers indentation across the 5-3000 HV range.
Display, measurement and data output
The industrial display screen shows the hardness value and the converted hardness, together with the test method, test force, dwell time and measurement times, so the operator sees the whole test context and not only a single number. The automatic reading returns a 5-digit hardness value and a 4-digit diagonal length in both directions (D1 and D2), and the dwell time of the test force can be set between 1 s and 99 s. Loading is fully automatic (load, hold and unload), which removes the operator-to-operator variation that a manual loading cycle introduces.
A built-in micro-printer interface is reserved and an RS232 serial interface can be fitted as an option, so the results can be sent to a printer or to a computer. The optional XY test bench, with 100 x 100 mm dimensions, a 25 x 25 mm stroke range and a 0.01 mm minimum reading, supports a series of indentations on one specimen, and the machine accepts specimens up to 165 mm high and 130 mm wide.
Application, scope and support
The tester is intended for iron and steel, non-ferrous metals, metal foil, hard alloy and metal sheet, and for the examination of microstructure and carbonisation. It is equally used for carburising, nitriding and decarburising layers, surface-hardened layers, electroplating layers, coatings and heat-treatment check work, and for glass, wafer and ceramic materials. Vickers testing is chosen for these cases because a single diamond indenter covers the whole range from very thin surface layers to bulk material simply by changing the test force from 0.3 kgf to 10 kgf.
The machine is built to GB/T 4340.2 and inspected under JJG 151. CHENJI has its own development, design, production and processing capability and provides life-long parts replacement, maintenance and upgrading services for the machines it supplies.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the automatic turret and a manual turret?
The automatic turret switches the eyepiece and the indenter by itself, which avoids damage to the instrument caused by manual error and greatly improves efficiency; a manual turret requires the operator to change between them.
What test forces and Vickers scales does the machine cover?
The test forces are 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 10.0 kgf, corresponding to the Vickers scales HV0.3, HV0.5, HV1.0, HV3.0, HV5.0 and HV10.0, with a hardness measuring range of 5-3000 HV.
What specimen size can be tested?
The maximum specimen height is 165 mm and the maximum width is 130 mm, measured from the indenter centreline to the machine wall; an optional 100 x 100 mm XY test bench with a 25 x 25 mm stroke is available.
Which standard does the tester follow?
The machine is built to the GB/T 4340.2 national standard and checked under the JJG 151 inspection regulation.
How are results stored or exported?
The display shows the hardness value, converted hardness, diagonal lengths, dwell time and test times; a built-in micro-printer interface is reserved and an RS232 serial interface can be fitted as an option.

About CHENJI & Support
CHENJI is the brand of Jinan Chenji International Trade Co., Ltd. (Shandong, China), a manufacturer and exporter of material testing machines since 2014, with in-house quality control plus third-party inspection by SGS or Bureau Veritas. The company holds ISO 9001 certification (626024QH073R1) and is a Bureau Veritas audited supplier (MIC-ASR2451820). Testing machines are normally supplied with a calibration certificate valid for 12 months and traceable to national force standards, and our engineers help you select the machine, fixtures and accessories for your specimen and method.
Every quotation is prepared against the standard you test to, so the delivered machine matches the test method rather than only the headline capacity. Spare parts, consumables and calibration support are available after delivery, and machines can be produced to OEM or ODM requirements when a customer drawing or specification is provided.
Selecting and Verifying a Testing Machine
Choosing a machine is a matter of matching capacity to the specimen and the method, not of buying the largest frame. A 1000 kN machine is not suitable for a sample that needs 1 N of force; capacity selection follows the specimen and the standard, and the force measuring system should be verified per ISO 7500-1 or ASTM E4 on a regular schedule. Load cells are commonly supplied as class 0.5 or class 1, which means the indicated force stays within ±0.5% or ±1% of the true force.
Test results are only comparable when they are quoted together with the standard, the specimen geometry, the test speed and the force measurement class. We are glad to review your test method and specimen so that the machine, fixtures and accessories are correctly specified before you order.
